Marble mountains

The Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) are located in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, about 8km southeast of Da Nang City. This is a cluster of five marble mountains lying close to the East Sea and Truong Giang River. That is the reason why it is called Hon Non Nuoc, which means Mountain and Water in Vietnamese.

In the early 19th century, in 1837, Emperor Minh Mang, the second Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, passed by and named the five mountains as Ngu Hanh Son. He also named each of them according to one of the five elements of the universe: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. According to Oriental philosophy, metal, wood, water, fire and earth are five elements that create the universe. Five is a very important number in oriental mentality and life. Among five mountains, Thuy Son (Water Mount) is the highest and the most beautiful. Emperor Minh Mangreally liked the beautiful scene of these mountains and had upgraded the pagoda. It is said that this pagoda had been a regular relaxing place for Emperor Minh Mang every time when he visited the Marble Mountain.

The Marble Mountain has many caves such as Hoa Nghiem, Huyen Khong, Linh Nham, Thien Phuoc Dia, Van Nguyet, Tam Thanh, Am Phu, Chiem Thanh, Ban Co, Van Thong, Tang Chon…and many pagodas. Among these pagodas, Tam Thai Pagoda and Linh Ung are the national pagodas. Besides, the Marble Mountain also has Vong Giang Dai (river-viewing pavilion), where visitors can see an overview of village, river and field or Vong Hai Dai (beach-viewing pavilion) where visitors can watch entire sight of beach. Especially, caves of the Marble Mountain have ancient inscriptions and many other objects with cultural and historical value.

The Marble Mountains are famous for their traditional Stone Sculpture Villages where nationwide and worldwide famous marble handicraft works are produced.It is also a very attractive sight for visitors.

Beaches

Danang has many beautiful and attractive beaches with their white and fine sand, transparent and limpid sea water, covering the city. Non Nuoc beach is close to the famous Marble Mountains and high-quality resorts. My Khe beach and Bac My An are always crowded with an interesting atmosphere. The beaches surrounding Son Tra Peninsula such as Bai But, Bai Rang, Bai Namnestle in natural forest and luxurious villas. Perhaps no one comes to the Da Nang city without visiting the beaches and enjoy the seafood such as shrimps, lobster, sea shrimp, crab, butter-fish, mackerel fish, oysters…

Nowadays, the beaches of Danang are invested on a large scale and becoming an attractive destination for the domestic and foreign tourists.

Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass is about 20km length stretching from Thua Thien Hue Province to Da Nang city along the slope of Hai Van Mount. Hai Van Pass is considered as an important natural wall preventing wind from the north overflow. So, Da Nang city and the provinces from Quang Nam province to the South of Vietnam have warm weather and no winter season. Whenever you go through Hai Van Passalso known as another name“De Nhat Hung Quan”, meaning the most colossal frontier post, two feelings are experienced: amazement at passing through the clouds and fear when seeing the dangerous bends of the road. From the top of Hai Van Pass with the height of 435m above sea level, you admire Lang Co Beach to the north and Danang to the south.For many centuries,Hai Van Pass is a source of inspiration of the domestic and foreign writers, poets and photographers.

Ba Na – Mo Stream Tourist Area

Ba Na – Mo Stream Tourist Area is located in Hoa Vang District, 30km from the center of Da Nang city. The mountain, which stands at the altitude of 1,487m above sea-level, has an average annual temperature that varies between 17 and 20°C. The top of mountain with its flat topography looks like small highland. Ba Na has many primary forests, the fauna and flora systems are varied and diversified. The flora has 379 genera, 543 species. The fauna system has 256 species (61 species of mammals, 178 species of birds, 17 species of reptiles). Ba Na resort can be compared with Da Lat, Sa Pa, Tam Dao resorts. Standing on the Ba Na Hill visitors can see a fantastic overview of Da Nang city, Vung Thung Bay stretching from the foot of Hai Van Pass to Son Tra Peninsula, My Khe Beach, Bac My An Beach, the Marble Mountains, Thu Bon River covering the fertile fields, Cham Island and Ly Son Island.

The road to the mountain is 15km long with many difficult and dangerous bends making tourists feel amazing and afraid of.I n the early 20th century, the French found out Ba Na Tourist Area and invested to buildmany villas, hotels and sport court, etc. Unfortunately, in many years later, these constructions were completely destroyed and abandoned by the war and severe weather.

Nowadays, Ba Na-Mo Stream Tourist Areais restored and developed completely in accordance with the natural scene. Enjoying nature they will feel relaxed and healthy and have peace of mind.

The wild nature of Ba Na Mount is very attractive, especially; Ba Na by night is more wonderful.You can attend a friendly camping fire; can drink wine, sing and dance comfortably around the warm fire in the coldish weather, and hear the breath of forest and wide nature. All worries of life will likely disappear, giving place for pleasures and happiness. Ba Na-Mo Stream Tourist Area is very interesting destination of Da Nang city.

Son Tra Peninsula

Son Tra Peninsula is located 13km from the northeast of Da Nang city and a mystery to many tourists. This place is far away from the noisy and business of the city.

Son Trais still a “natural museum”through the war years. Survey Documentation said that the peninsula is 15km long, its widest place is 5km, its most narrow place is 1.5 km, its highest mountain peak is 693m high, many peaks is over 500m high. On the peninsula still has 400ha of primary forest, 2.611ha of secondary forest. The peninsula is the interaction between typical flora and fauna systems of the North and the South of Vietnam. Until now, Son Tra primary forests still preserves 289 species of vascular plants of 217 genera. In term of fauna, this place is where a colony of monkeys and their relatives live. At the present, Son Tra has many long-tailed monkey, red-faced chicken, etc.

The peninsular is very attractive with its emerald seawater, white sandy beaches. There are many attractive beaches such as Tien Sa in the north, Bai But, Bai Xep, Bai Nam in the south. Visitors go to the beach by the cars along the slopes surrounding the peninsula or by boat. Each beach has its unique beauty and interesting features. In the past, Son Tra Peninsula used to be a shelter for ships when storms occurred, or this was the place where the ships got fresh water, fuel, food … to continue their journeys.

Taking the boat around the peninsular, the tourists can see green forest, wide beach, blue sky and clouds. The travelers have a chance to enjoy the fresh air and attractive natural scenery, climb the mountains, swim in cool water, go fishing or explore the daily life of local people.

Coming Da Nang city, you can discover Son Tra Peninsula with many interesting and strange things.

29-3 Park

Located on major roads in the city, 29-3 park is the biggest amusement center of Da Nang city. The park covers 10ha, in which a half of area is the water area. With open-air space, the park has many trees, flower pots, gardens and lawns got the regular care. Lake in the park is the place where visitors can take the dragon boat or ride a bike on the water. The park also has the area of folk games, videogames, cuisine, music performance, bonsai, etc.
